Andy Jassy’s Keynote Highlights-Storage/ Database/ Blockchain

“We have a lot of storage classes, but we’re not close to being done,” Jassy said, depicting the new storage service blueprint in AWS re:Invent. New storage service gives customers more flexibility in how they keep, manage, move and access their data. Amazon Aurora, a fully MySQL/PostgreSQL compatible database engine with at least as strong durability and availability as commercial grade databases but at 1/10th of the cost for customers. For the blockchain, Amazon finally revealed a service dedicated to the trendy blockchain technology. This service supports popular open source blockchain technologies like hyperledger fabric and ethereum.

    This new storage class for Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is designed for long-term data archival and is the lowest cost storage from any cloud provider. Priced from just $0.00099/GB-mo (less than one-tenth of one cent, or $1.01 per TB-mo), the cost is comparable to tape archival services. Data can be retrieved in 12 hours or less, and there will also be a bulk retrieval option that will allow you to inexpensively retrieve even petabytes of data within 48 hours.
